The ammo gauge is cut to the low-end average of .45 ACP & 38 Special / 357 Magnum factory chamber diameter dimensions and will quickly sort out bad loads that will cause gun malfunctions due to chambering problems.
To use simply drop a loaded cartridge into the gauge and find the ones that drop right in and bottom out freely with a clicking sound (cartridge head will protrude enough for easy removal).
The ones that are oversized, bulged, wrinkled, etc.... that only go partway in or bind in any way should be set aside for practice only.
Aluminium 6061 round stock that has been cut and precision machined to exacting specifications to check the fit of reloads.
This is an absolute must for any reloader that shoots in competition.
Special bullet reload checker. After your reload, drop your rounds into this checker then turn the checker upside down and make sure they drop free by themselves. This will ensure the bullets were sized and crimped correctly. If they don't fit or don't drop free you may have feed and function problems with your reloads. Put those bullets aside for practice and use only the 'drop free' bullets for match or competition use.
Every gun and barrel chamber is slightly different. Match guns and barrels such as S&W Performance Center guns, Kart Barrels and others are precision machined to exacting unforgiving tolerances. These barrels are generally more accurate and have tighter tolerances than standard or combat style barrels. If you reload, this handy little checker is a must. If your rounds don't pass the checker test put them aside and try them in practice. If the round passes and drops in and out fine then your reloaded round should fit your barrel chamber correctly.

In some instances, your cartridge may sit flush with the lower step BUT the brass may be shorter than the SAAMI minimum specifications. In this instance, your ammunition may still fire and function correctly but it is up to you to confirm this will not cause an unsafe condition. It is the reloader's responsibility to determine the cause of incorrectly sized cartridges and to correct it. In some cases, ammunition previously fired with maximum powder loads or with abnormally large barrel chamber diameters may not fit this gauge. This is due to some resizing dies not being able to fully resize the brass cartridge all the way down to its head. Any ammunition shown in pictures is purely for representation purposes and is not included with the purchase of this gauge.
